Proper gear for the Alabama rig. What's your setup?

Reel speed?
Pound test line?
Rod length?

Opinions??

Thanks,

Well, there could be a lot of weight involved with the whole rig so a swimbait type rod for the larger sizes is best to handle the weight.
The line used needs to handle the shock generated IF you get that occurreance called "professional overrun" If you make a cast and get one while it is in the air and don't have a line to handle it, you will loose the whole rig. The total cost of the rig should determine what you are willing to gamble on. Paul Elias suggested 80#-100#. Additionally the potential of a multi-catch of large size fish should be considered also.

I use the TFO Swimbait model 7'11" rated for 2-6 oz.
80# Daiwa Samurai on a Abu 4600 C4. I want the resistance of the level wind during the cast just in case the rig tumbles during the cast, which does happen occasionally.

Does the A-Rig work??? You must have not been paying attention to what is going on in the bass fishing world.

I wouldn't think braid since if you did get a backlash it has no shock and your rig would most likely go soaring. For setup I would look at suggested tackle for a 2oz swimbait or so and go from there.
