On the water at 06:30 today and could not run anywhere due to the fog. Fished the Mason Point cove and the cove around the bend to the left. Caught 2 dinks and a 3lber in the Mason Point cove. Went in the cove around the bend and picked up a nice 4lber and a couple pound and a half fish. All these fish came off a Black Red Flake Ninja Stix whacky rigged with a Ninja Band. Picked up a couple others on 1.5 square bill crank bait in sexy shad.

The fog finally lifted and I headed to the 72 road bed in from of Calaham and started to throw the Black Red Flake Ninja Stix on a CR and scored a couple in the 2 pound range. Broke 3 off in that area and lost two on the hookset.

Water temps were from 64 to 67. Fished until 4:00

All in all had a great day.

No fish really worthy of pictures but it was nice to set the hook multiple times in the same day.

Also of note. The stick bait bite was very subtle.

I personally do not like parking my truck at Mason. A quick look around the parking lot and you will find 3 or 4 spots where someone's window was busted.

Nice to hear a good report from Choke.

I did not see any bedding fish. In fact, the water was so stained in the areas I fished, I did not see any fish unless they were on the end of my line.

I want to try to get back out there this week if possible. The last trip was reasonably productive. I would love to had the ones that broke me off. I am going to fish more braid this trip.

Dan, I plan to fish choke this week as well. I will be in a silver/white skeeter with yamaha 225. I caught some solid fish last week but I still think the spawn if a few weeks off. This little cold shot didn't help much either.

Jim,

I think you are right on. There may be some spawning going on, but I think the weather has been too inconsistent for the majority of time. I think we need a good 5-10 days of warm weather without the rolling temps to kick it into high gear.

Also, with the wind up and the rain, it makes it hard to distinguish beds because the water is to cloudy or stained. I did not run to four finger, the dam or south shore areas so I cannot speak about them.

I am just jonesin to get back down there and get a whack at those big ones I missed on the CR.

I think this time I am going to just TR with some 80 lb braid and sharp hooks. I'll get them this time.

What day are you planning to be there?

Looking at the weather, I may have to wait Til Friday.

Dan,
I would really rather fish Falcon this week and may just make a DAY trip there. I am off Mon - Thur so it just depends on the weather. I fished from calaham to the dam and the water looked better down the lake, but it isn't clear anywhere. Choke needs a few feet of water in it to flood that vegitation and clear up the water. We found some grass in the water on the south end, but it was below the surface.

I posted my results from last Wednesday on here in another thread.

I still think choke is a few weeks if not a month away. Just depends on this weather.
