I have heard horror stories about Lowrance Customer service and just wanted to share my recent experience with them.

I purchased an HDS 8 in December of '09 when I bought my boat. Never had a problem with it until three weekends ago while fishing in the rain. The dang thing filled up water. Of course, I was none to happy about this, but I called Customer Service the next Monday and sent the unit it. After verifying that they received it, I was told it would be replaced, free of charge. I was a little surprised considering the unit was out of warranty AND is no longer the top of the line model.

Just wanted to give them a big thumbs and thanks! I was pretty impressed with their response and how quickly it was handled. Received my new HDS 8 last night.
