I am thinking about changing out my lights (conventional bulb) to LED lights. Is it as simple as just putting in the new LED light fixtures and wiring them up or is wiring an LED trailer completely different than conventioal style?

Thank you.

Also, I have 2 back up lights on the corners of my fenders that are curved where my fenders wrap around. They look like the same size as my brake lights which are 2"x6" but they are curved instead of flat like the brake lights.

I have search for curved lights but everything I come up with is flat. Does anyone know where I can get these?

Well I have been looking on the internet at lights and maybe mine aren't curved. I think that the lense just has a curve in it and the light is probably still flat.

Both lights are probably the same. Just an optical illusion.

I thinkthe back side of all of them are flat. The trailer manufacturers are going to use off the shelf stuff, not custom parts. Optronics seems to be the brand of choice.

On the LED lights, they wire the same. The wire coming out of the back is 12V and the screw hole with the metal on the back will be ground. More on grounds at the end of my post.

I looked at the LED lights when I was replacing all of the lights on my trailer. I decided that for the difference in visibility, the extra cost wasn't justified. If you install new lights, run new wiring harness and have good ground connections to everything, even with the standard type lights, you'll look like a Christmas tree going down the road. One thing I recommend is to run separate wires for ground connections to everything instead of depending on the traller chassis to provide ground. I bought my rig from a guy down on the coast and everything was eaten up with salt. I've replaced everything.

The best thing about LED is the durability. No bulb socket to go bad, etc. I had one drop off the trailer and was dragged down the interstate for miles. It ground the end of the fixture where it was striking the pavement, including some LED lights and wiring, but the rest of it was still shinning brightly.

LED's are well worth the money. Buy the kit with the wiring harness. It is easy to install and will give you trouble free service for years. The wiring gives as much trouble as the lights when they age. I did it on my boat.
