I going to take the plunge and purchase my first Dobyns cranking stick. I want to buy a 7' rod & I can only afford one right now, so what would you guys recomend. I primarily throw square bill cranks, rattletraps, SK series 3, & the small SK KVD square bill cranks occasionally. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated & thank you in advance.

Call Dobyn's. Richard might answer and you can discuss.

Is the glass rod ok if fishing mostly around stump fields and heavy brush or would it be better for more open water situations?

It's perfect for fishing around stumps and rocks. The glass rod allows for a much better hook up % vs a stiffer rod.

I dont exaggerateI just remember BIG !!!

I am not big on the glass rods,so my suggestion goes to the 705 CB MF. Outstanding rod.

Just a thought if you are going to be fishing around close cover, the 685 CB would make a good choice. Either way, (glass or not), you will not be disappointed. I bought one Dobyns and now that is all that is in my rod locker.

705CB MF would be a perfect for the applications you suggested.

I throw a 683C for my big squarebills, shorter length allows me to be more accurate when tossing it into tight places. 15 lb Invisx and a good squarebill, stump field and I'm in business.
Best warranty in the business in my opinion.
I have 3 Dobyn's rods and eventually hope to be switched over completely to Dobyns rods soon.
