My buddy and I just booked our 4-day trip to Falcon for March 1, 2, 3, & 4. This will be our first trip to the lake. Do you guys think the main portion of the spawn will be over by then? Either way, what strategies do you recommend for that time?

I was planning on throwing lots of cranks, flukes, and brush hogs in less than 10 feet of water....

I would think there should still be some fish spawning at that time.

You got the plan I'd use down. I would run some ditches and points with a crank for sure. alot of fish will be post spawn.

We went that week in 09, every fish we caught but one was post spawn. I suspect there were probably fish still spawning, they were just really hard to get to because the lake was so full. Alot of places you couldn't get within 400 yards or more of the bank. Atleast not with my buddy's new boat. We caught alot of postspawn fish on points. A big spinnerbait and c-rig lizard were our best producers. We are going about 2 weeks earlier this year. Best of luck.

We will be there at the same time. More than likely, there will be a few fish left moving up, lots of spawning, and post spawn activity, too. Concentrate on migratory routes into spawning areas. You will catch 'em coming and going. Just don't go fishing around Ole' Guerrero church no matter how well the locals say they're bitin there! Definitely get a Mex license, though, but stay out on the points and secondary points and find ledges to fish.

Well I have some exciting news....I am now booked for TWO trips to Falcon within the next month. Not only are my friend and I booked for March 1, 2, 3, & 4.....but my dad asked if he and I could go sooner, in hopes of hitting the peak of the spawn. So I called around Zapata and ended up getting us a room at the Holiday Inn....and we will be fishing Feb. 13, 14, 15, & 16!!!
banana HOT DAMN!!!

Hopefully with these two sets of dates, we will be able hit the spawn just right, and do some damage on the fat ladies!! I have high hopes....and my goal is the same as most other Falcon fisherman.....to land a double digit bass. I have yet to do that in my life.

Also, my dad is out to break his personal best....which is only 5-15. Hopefully that won't be a problem for him.

We will make sure to stop by Falcon Lake Tackle and see if we can get some pointers, since this is our first trip to the lake.

I will be there with you on the February trip and staying at Oso Blanco. I'm hoping for the same but have only been there once before and the lake had just filled up in the weeks prior to my arrival, so I have no idea what to expect this time. I think your dad will shatter his record, multiple times. I'm hoping for my first DD fish. I dont know about you, but I have no idea what part of the lake to fish when I get there and am hoping to figure it out the first day so, so I can have fun the next two days. Good Luck and look for a Red/White Skeeter behind a Brown Silverado at the county ramp. Hoping for more pointers on this thread.

Good deal!! Maybe we will see ya....we will be in a 22' Red/Tan Xpress center console, behind a red Dodge Ram.

We plan on using the county ramp as well.....and we are staying on the Texas side.

Blueflake,I will be there the 18th thru 25th and staying at Falcon Heights. I also have several friends down the week before that should be on them before we get there and are supposed to give us a report. If you want to share info feel free to PM as it gets closer, I will share what I know. In the past trips I have found it really helped everyone involved to share info back and forth.

Spent a week around the same time last Feb fishing by myself on the Texas side only and couldn't boat any over 7. However, some guys from Tennesse found a few big fish in the back of the Veleno. Most of the good spawning flats are in Mexican water.

JM will let you know if I hear anything.
I was there last year, same time frame and had a blast. Caught lots of big fish and my PB of 11.60 flipping trees in 5 feet of water. Most of our fish came from Veleno as well.
Hopefully we can repeat this year
