I know I saw a post not long ago about this with great technical responses but I can't find it. my trolling motor batteries died with an hour to go last weekend in a tournament so I need new ones. I don't want to pay the cost of gel cell. Any guidance you guys have would be appreciated. My last ones were AC Delco and came in my ranger new when I bought it3 years ago. They lasted a long time. Maybe I should just buy more AC Delco.

I have two blue tops that gave out at the same time this week. Boat has been parked for hunting season. The weird thing is that they were working fine before I parked it. I took them in to autozone and told me that they were both bad, ouch! I'm also looking for replacements that won't cost all limbs. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're ok knowing that you're going to get exactly two good years and a third ok year out of them................the Bass Pro XPS series 185's have been worth the price to me. If you're just trying to get em cheap, the plain Wal-Mart ones are fine (get the biggest deep cycle you can), but know that you'll get NO more than 2 years out of them. That's if you run em like I do (8-10 hours of hard trolling each time you go out).

you've already seen the other two options probably. Pay 50% - 100% more for the Interstates or other good deep cycles, like AC Delco and you definitely get that third year and sometimes a 4th year.

Buck up and pay 200% of that BPS price and you get the Optima Blue Tops. Good news, you get 5-6 years out of them and don't have to monkey with changing them out every 2-3 years.........bad news.........you need a Tums after purchasing.

Just kinda depends on what you're looking for. If the hassle of changing them out (10 minutes max) doesn't bother you and you want to save purchase time price at all times, go XPS. If you want no hassle and value for the buck, AND can swallow sticker shock, go with Blue tops. If you're in the middle, Ac Delco, Interstate, etc. Always get the biggest series they sell that will fit in your boat.

All, of course, just in my opinion.

Man, I wish I could get beyond year 3. But for the price of them, I tend to stay on the cheaper end.

I've been on 2 Interstate batteries for 6 years now with no problems. I know it's any day now though.

Trojan SCS 200s or 225s if you have room. The only thing that matters for trolling motor batteries is reserve capacity. Get the batteries with the most. Trojan is hard to beat.
