I have a few questions for the people that regularly stand and fish.

1. What do you do with your paddle while you aren't using it so it does not swing around all over the place?

2. Has anyone put some kind of stand up assist cord to grab onto to aid in standing and sitting back down on their kayak?

3. Whats the best way to paddle and do you use your normal kayak paddle or a special one?

1. There should be bungees attached to your side carry handles. Those are paddle holders. You lay your paddle parallel to the side of the yak, nestled right above the side handle, stretch the bungee over the paddle shaft, and hook it on the hook just inside the cockpit. Also, on the bow, between the hatch and the front carry handle, is a bungee running across the bow with a rubber circle. This rubber piece allows you to quickly slip the blade of the paddle under the bungee.

2. It's a great idea. The Jackson Cuda comes standard with one and it helps out amazingly well. It would be easy to install one on your yak. When you attach it to the yak, use a stainless steel bolt, nylon locking nut, and large backup, so that it won't pull through the yak when you're using it.

3. You can use your regular paddle just fine. Or you could get a stand-up paddleboard paddle. If you plan on doing a LOT of standing and moving, then a paddleboard paddle is nice to have. However, if you don't plan on moving around much while standing, then a paddleboard paddle will probably just end up in the way when you fish and paddle normally.

When i go out and know i will be standing and sightcasting i take a homemade push pole and leash the paddle to the side of the kayak with the bungees that are on most kayaks.

when I dont have the push pole and i need to cast then i just lay the paddle across the kayak. It might wobble and go *clunk clunk clunk* on the kayak a bit but i havent had any issues with it.

Usually i pole until i see a red, lay the push pole down. Grab the rod already laying in the leg area of the yak and cast so its in one motion but balance is needed. =) goodluck

Thanks for the suggestions. I might end up looking into attaching an assist cord eventually just worried cause im not a huge do it your selfer scared ill break things. I might use the push pole idea at some point but where I am at now shallow water is still 10+ ft.
