I was out fishing a local creek and saw a bunch of carp, but couldn't get them to bite anything I threw in front of them. I tried buggers, nymphs, egg patterns, and pretty much everything I had in my trout box, but they didn't want to play. What kind of flies do you guys have luck with?

I think its a matter of determining what they are eating and matching the hatch pretty well. From what I've been told, if they are not eating then there's minimal chance of a hookup.

More like "None" chance. Pesky. My default is a Coyote Carp Fly as tied by TexasFlyCaster. He has done some focused carping: http://texasflycaster.com/?s=coyote+carp I'd contact him.

could have to do with water temp as well, when the water drops below 51 degrees they pretty much shutdown.

that said the fly has in my experience very little to do with getting them to take it...its more about placing the fly in the right spot in-front of the fish.

Presentation has the most to do with success. Changing flies can also help sometimes. Understanding Carp behaviors is also very important as it helps you to determine which fish are the best targets.

I think with carp, the saying, "repetition is the price of knowledge" is especially true. They're goofy animals to catch but worth cracking the code.
