I believe you need a title for the boat and one for the motor from TPW and one for the
trailer from motor vehicle dept.

You'll have to go to Parks and Wildlife office and they will give you the forms you need to fill out and return to apply for the title. There is a fee so don't be shocked.

I believe if you claim something as homemade you must show receipts from material in which the boat/trailer was built. Plus it must pass an inspection by a Game Warden. I'm pretty sure it would be more hassel than just paying the higher fee. Kinda tough to explain why your homemade trailer says Magnum on the side of it.

Homemade boats you have to have material list and inspection. A boat trailor can be registered as homemade and you do that at the courthouse.

j.steve is right, homemade boats do have to pass inspection. Any other boat has to have a title and if the motor is an outboard it also must have a title. TPW does not have anything to do with trailers which normally donot have titles. Trailers can be regestered as homemade with no inspection.

Here is the form for the boat and motor from TPWD site. If you have the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can fill them in prior to printing them. You have to split the total price between the boat, motor, and trailer. The tax rate is the same (6.25%) for all.

Here is the form for the trailer . If the trailer has tags, it's been titled. If they're current, then all you pay is the transfer fee and tax. Just use the info off the trailer title to fill in the blanks on the application. If you go the home made route & it has current tags on it, the owner needs to keep/destroy the plate. Then you pay title application fee and registration. Could be more money going the home made route.

TXCHAMP,
Thank You for the sites from TWP. I am not the one that ask the question, but I did need the Title for my boat, motor, and trailer.
