When i come from san antonio i take the three rivers exit highway 72 all the way to a street named airport. I make a left and continue until i come to the boat ramp.

Fold Cat, exit highway 72 into Three Rivers then it will turn into 281. Don't stay on 72 it will take you to Choke Canyon lake. Stay on 281 until you get a couple miles before you get to George West. Look for the Airport Rd on left side. Airport road will dead end into the ramp.

Whatever, is there no water at the ramp now? How about at the 59 bridge?

Tried to launch at the Hiway 59 bridge on 1/4/12 -- no luck. Water level is ~ 6-8 ft lower than last year. The river has lots of debris exposed making navigation difficult.

The lower end of the ramp is covered in ~8-12 inches of mud. You will probably get your vehicle stuck trying get your trailer into the water, then get your trailer struck in the muck of the river bottom. Unless the water level comes up 3-4 feet, trying to launch anything less than a kayak or john boat is going to be tough.

Medina you are correct. My bad. I have not been there since last years run. But i was talking to a friend of mine today and he said that a buddy of his hsd gone to the nueces river and caught some whites. Now i dont know if this is true. If he did go he usually goes in at the airport ramp.

Launching a kayak is no problem. When are you planning on going?

Need to get up with a couple of buddies who would be interested in coming with me. I'll let you know, but probably within the next couple of weeks.

Post your trip results when you get back. I'll be going soon and would like a little heads up on the water level and if the bass are at the first rapids upsteam from the airport ramp. I'll be kayak fishing so low water level is ok with me.

Two years ago when the river was down, I was able to limit out about 200 yards upriver from the airport ramp. I don't know how this years water levels compare to then though. Back then people in jon boats had to drag their boats through the riffles in several areas. I had a kayak and probably could have walked most of the way up the river without it going over my waist. And I'm short, lol. I hope there is enough water for them to get up that far.

Your right. Two years ago we had the best time ever. The water level was so low you only had to paddle a short distance to catch your limit. Took longer to paddle than to limit out.

You can if you like. water level is so low that you will have to drag between deeper spots. Best luck for me has been to find a wide, deeper area with riffles of quick moving water at its head. set yourself up there and work those waters thoroughly. I generally use minnows tightlined on the bottom and take my time. a bit of advice for all, if you find a few fish, stay with them. Don't leave fish to go find fish. I think its a bit early this year still, so I'm hoping the better fishing is on its way still.
