Rumor has it, I'm a cheapskate. Truth is, I'm just a financial conservative. When I respool with the expensive fluoro line, I only change about 60-70 yards. This requires tying the new line to the old (backing) line that is kinked like a "Slinkie". Tying knots is nearly impossible with the kinked line. To speed the process and straighten the line, just dunk about 12 inches of the kinked line in a cup of hot water for 2 minutes. Simple solutions are the best.

Good idea. Thanks
What knot do you use to tie the two lines together?

I tie my filler to my braid or flouro with a uni knot. Never had a problem with it.

you ever just reverse the line your are taking off to another reel? that way you are only actually removing one reel's topshot (to start the reversal process). and you only have one reel at the end of the process that will need line from the actual spool of line. I do this with braid and one reel fill will last 6 months (well, back WHEN i fished)....

For the kinked line you can also just pull off a couple of feet, grab with both hands and pull on it to get the kinks out.

I sure wish reversing line would work with all line. No way to do it without rolling the curl onto the new reel. It might work with braid but I have never tried it. A good idea though. Sure would save a lot of money. Might try it for just fishing but NOT in a tournament. Too risky.

This is what I do and it works great only 2 seconds.

I also only fill 60 or so yards of new line. I have tried several knots and found the Albright knot to work best. If you do happen to cast down to it the knot will go through the the rod eyes, if not the micro type, with no problem. Never had a failure yet, knock on wood.

I use the Albright Special knot. Check it out on youtube-TackleTour video for tying braid to fluoro. I was using the triple surgeon's but the braid was cutting the fluoro line on hooksets causing lots of loud noises (sometimes referred to as cussin').

I tie a Uni-Knot and only make two twists each on each line.
