I bought a 45 oz tub of Charlie b Blood dough bait ( apparently I fell to the advertising people) and when using it the cats don't even seem phased or do they notice it. I'm pretty new to catfishing and was wondering if anyone here uses that bait or has used it. Also what other brands make catfish bait that actually work.
The setups I used are the Carolina rig, drop shot, and just slab it on the hook. Ive tried using a little, a lot, and everything in between with no luck.

I even tried to make my own dough bait with flower, water, bread, and vanilla. Still nothing. Any pointers on making a dough bait?

I'm normally fishing small ponds where I know there are cats, and I'm not really targeting a specific species. In fact, I figured any bait caught any type of cat. Guess I shouldn't assume. I caught a pretty decent fish, I think, it was 29" and weighed about 8-10 lbs. It had a forked tail that was split in the middle-not to sure what type of cat it was.

I would start with a bait that is easier to use. I have always had luck on hotdogs on trebles or shrimp on single hooks in small ponds.

What has always worked for me( you may have to wait till it is warmer though) is a treble hook and a slip bobber. If you throw out some sour milo to bait a area .Dip your charlie b it in the sour milo too. This type of bait seem to work best when you have alot of channel cat in one area.

What is sour Milo?

Milo is grain you can get at most feed stores. You take it, dump enough in a 5 gallon bucket to fill it halfway, add enough water to cover the grain, add a cup of sugar and/or a beer, loosely put the lid on and forget about it for at least two to three weeks. Sometimes a little longer if it's cold. You'll know when it's ready, it will smell kind of like a ballpark bathroom. DO NOT lock the lid on the bucket, or you will have the world's largest time-release stinkbomb on your hands.

Once it sours, you can haul it out to the place you plan on fishing and chunk it out in the water. A lot of guys will use a milk jug cut like a scoop, or they'll get a wiffle ball bat and cut off the top, and plug the little hole in the bottom of the handle. They'll scoop it in there and sling it out in the water.

You can do the same thing with wheat or chicken scratch, but IMO milo is the better choice.

This guy Sorry I am at work so I did not get to answer your question catfishaddiction nailed my response though. I use the cut off bat you can throw it a long way with this method, and did we mention IT SMELLS!!!! You do not want it on your hands or any where near you for that matter. The people living next door to you will love you. Try it.

it definately works, i never have tried to prepare it in the fall or winter but in the summertime in Texas heat it doesn't take long before you know it is ready and like they said don't get any of it on you, when you smell that stuff you will know what we are talking about. after you have prepared the milo and toss it in the area that you are fishing you will start catching cats within the hour.

This sounds like when I watched my neighbor before he went hunting. He put corn in a bucket and some sugar and water and left it on his patio till he went. Is that basically the same process?

Also, any dough bait recipes that work? Id like to try my hand at that.

Maze works the same way as the milo any grain you can use range cubes too.
Use any soured grain in your bait if you try to make any there are soaps you can make if you can find lye also.Easy punch bait to make use half pork fat/brains to half cheese any kind or a blend heat it up to mix it you can add cattails for a fiber.almost any bait made this way can be cut or made thicker using flour to thicken and oil to thin hope this helps.

Charlie works for channel cats when you fish it vertically tied up to a tree...otherwise it will come off the hook if you try to cast it.

You might be thinking about the dip bait. I've got the dough bait and I can cast it pretty good with out it coming off. In fact, I can't get it off all the way sometimes
