I know there will be different opinions but I want to know what brand of rod you like, action, length, and why you think that rod is best for you for fishing rattle traps in grass.
I have been fishing a OLD Castaway 1/2 oz trap rod that is going on 10 years and just feel it is too wimpy for fishing grass.
I know you will probably say why have you been fishing it so long... Well it works for the little time that I throw one but have a feeling there is a better suited rod for grass fishing...
Any thoughts or help appreciated....

That castaway rod is actually a good rod, I still have mine. I use a powell spook and trap rod, by far the best I have found. It is 7'2, composite I believe, has the right back bone with a "whippy" tip to really rip it out, yet the tip is soft enough you dont lose fish. Its by far one of my favorite rods. Plus wont break the bank. All my buddies that use it fall in love with it too. But that castaway RatLTrap rod is no slouch.

I like a rod with some "give" for fishing traps except in grass. For those apps, I use a Gloomis CBR903C which is a 7'6" Medium Action Rod. For ripping traps out of grass I use either a Loomis CBR 906C 7'6" Med Heavy or a Loomis MMR843C Med-Heavy 7' rod.

I have access to some of the best rods on the planet and I still use that old Castaway rod for my traps, grass or no grass. I understand the concept of going to a stiffer rod in grass, but when I fish a trap in grass I use 20 Floro which seems to make up for some of the whippyness that makes the rod so good for when you do hook a fish up.
It's hard to beat that rod for a trap, I think it's actually one of their saltwater blanks. One of the best all around trap blanks ever made.

Those two rods cover all my trap needs, and I throw ALOT of traps.

The Dobyns Champion 765CB Glass is the ultimate rattle trap rod! It is 7'6" And med/heavy. It is the best I have ever used for a rattle trap.

I agreee with Alec 110% !! that 765 cb Glass is amazing and balanced very well for a trap! if you find that you need a stiffer rod for throwin 20# flouro and popping the 5/8 oz trap outta thicker grass... step up to the Champion Series 805CB RM...

G Loomis 7'6" MH Crank Bait Rod (CBR 906). Made for rippin' Red Eye Shad through grass. Love it.
For a great priced alternative the Duckett micro-magic is also excellent.

I started using this one last year and really like it. Falcon Bucoo Trap Caster I also use it alot for Skinny Dippers and hollow body swimbaits. You can almost chunk all the line off a Curado and it still has enough backbone to rip grass.

I've tried longer rods for traps in the grass in the 7 to 7"6 range and I just don't understand how you guys can fish those rods for more than an hour or two when you gotta rip them out... simply too exhausting.
I use a Loomis MBR 783 that's 6"6. Granted, it's more like a MH worm rod but I can rip traps all day with that rod...

I got the H2O crankbait rod from Academy the other day. It's 7'. I have been out three times with it and love the feel of the rod. It's light and has a great feel and connection with the bait and whats under the water. Didn't catch anything real big with it, but it had a good back bone for fighting fish to the boat. The long term verdict is still out for it but so far I'm pleased with the quality I got for the price.
