You guys are lucky. Trout got sticked here last week and we promply had a HARD freeze, as in single didgets. Now the ponds are pretty much frozen over so your lure just skitters across the ice.

For you DFW Metroplex anglers Tarrant Regional Water District will stock the Trinity River at Trinity Park in Fort Worth this Tuesday Dec. 13th at 1 PM. Since this is a Crystal Lake Hatchery stocking sponsored by the TRWD the trout will be larger than the tiny trout released by TPWD. About 2200 fish will be released divided into 4 locations along the river in Trinity Park.

Trinity Park has a handicapped pier for those of us who have mobility problems.

A license is required in Trinity Park. There is a 2 rod limit.

What size have yall been catching this year?
A guy at my local pond caught two 14 inch trout. Last year all I caught was 10's.

Got three limits in Allen today (me, fiance and sis)! My fiance has been itching to go since I told her trout season was coming. Tried lures with no takers and switched to powerbait. Game on! Got checked by the leo today. Saw him bust a few people and it was nice to see him out. Fish dinner was delicious! grill

Went back this evening and only caught one. Much smaller than the two from last night. Today's Picture.

VSELIN,
Not for certain but suspect that Prosper Community Park is the same as last year's location but was called Whitley Place Park. Look for a Trout Derby announcement from Prosper that will provide more details. If it is the same place as last year, go North on Custer, cross Hwy 380 and turn left onto Wilson Creek Trail into a subdivision, then left on Whitley Place Drive. Look for a pond with a pavillion and a bridge on your right. Going to play it by ear until the Trout Derby announcement... NW of Prosper off 1461 is not detailed enough. Worse case scenario, going to calll the contact number on the Trout Derby announcement.

VSELIN,
Here is a link to a "Community Park" (under Construction) from the City of Prosper's website. May be of help if you happen to see something similar while driving 1461. Looks like it has a bigger pond and the pavillion is in a different location than the one at Whitley Place. Link

Try this technique. It is almost a sure thing.

On your lightest rod and reel spooled with 4 to 6 pound test line tie a small snap swivel. Place a 3/8 oz bell sinker in the snap and also a leader about 14-18 inches long with a number 10 gold Aberdeen hook or a number 20 treble hook.

Bait the hook with a small ball of Berkley floating trout bait. Use only enough bait to float the hook.

The sinker will rest on the bottom and the hook will float up off the bottom. Do not retrieve - just let the bait lie. The trout will hit the bait hard and usually set the hook himself, but set the hook gently when you feel him jerk.

Using this technique I almost always got my limit in years past. The trout will probably be injured so the technique is not recommended for catch and release.

If you want to catch and release then a small Panther Martin spinner, Mepps spinner or Super Duper retrieved just fast enough to keep it off the bottom will work. The spinners are not nearly as effective as the power bait if you are fishing for dinner.

Fish early. Trout bite best when the sun angle is low.

Good luck.

That is my usual technique although I tie a two dropper loop bottom rig. I hit Bethany last night for two hours using two rods. Did not catch anything, then caught a fish on the first rod, recast it, caught a fish on the second rod, recast it and had a fish on the first rod again. After that nada. Two guys next to me caught a few on the gold super duper.

Went back this morning about 7:30. A guy caught his 6th fish on Power Bait when I got there. I fished until about 10, caught 4 on power bait and one on a panther martin gold spinner. Saw a few others caught on power bait as well. Largest was about 15 inches.

This thread has good advice regarding bait, its always good to have a variety. I use sunrise (orange and yellow and pink, however, have used corn as well). Same with the spinners, I have them all, Aglias, Rooster tails, Panther Martins, gold spoons and Kastmasters. Lost my gold super duper but will get one on Monday.

Evenings and mornings work best for me...

Good luck
