Headed to Amistad for the first time for Christmas because plane tickets are too expensive. Never been fishing during this time of the year because normally the lakes are frozen in Michigan around this time...If anyone has any advice for where and what for this time of year I would appreciate it! Pretty excited.

A bad day of fishing is still better than a good day at work.

Tuff fishing out there right now, which seems to be going around on South Texas reservoirs. Here is Kurts most recent report from Amistad and he updates it pretty regularly.

Plus #1. Amistad is hard to fish right now. Your best bet is to get a hold of Kurt and see if he has an open date and fish with him. I fished Amistad a few weeks ago and launched at Box Canyon. Caught most of our fish on the Mexico Side. Make sure if you fish the Mexico side you get a Mexico fishing license. March and April are the best months to fish Amistad.

Cub is right about Kurt Dove and his fishing report being up to date and spot on. Talked with Kurt before fishing Amistad Friday. Caught 19 Fish. Northern coming in and 58 Deg. water. The bigger fish eluded me. Drop shot and Football Head jigs were all I threw. 25 to 40 ft deep. Kurt was even on the fish Saturday with the rain and a high of 45 Deg. Check out the photos on his website for 12/10

12.38# caught this morning.

Sounds like it is time to head to Amistad.

I better start making reservations before Carl's place is full.

Fishing has been HOT this weekend. Several 9 - 10 #ers fri and Sat and today on my club tourney I caught a 9.46 and was third to a 9.79 and 12.50. Crankbaits have been the ticket. Only 20 guys went out.

wow.... I just have a hard time fishing any deeper than 25-30 feet...been to falcon a couple times and just decided we wanted to give amistad a shot... After hearing crank baits and 9-10lb fish....i think we might be headed to amistad after all. with this crazy weather i don't think the same type of fishing will be happening in two weeks though. It's most likely going to come down to the weather reports commin in next week. We are either headed west to amistad or south to falcon....either way i'm pumped, thanks for the input guys

Many are fishing 20-30 ft but the biggest fish in our case came around 15ft ( if the others are telling the truth). But definately DD22 are catching the better fish

I have been seeing the numbers of fish per day drop off from what we had been catching before Thanksgiving when 30-40 fish per day was common between the 2lb-3.5lb range. Now we are catching 20 or so fish per day with a little better average fish weight and bigger fish being caught around the lake as reported above.
It seems as the fall feed as finally gotten some of the large females a little more on the plump side and now they are weighing what they should instead of their lower (skinnier) summer wieghts.
I believe the true sharelunker time is coming into effect here at Amistad. Especially with the colder water temps getting some of the bigger fish located in the more predominately fished depth zones.

Cloudy days with colder temps like we had this weekend are great for catching the big Mama's. Chamber of Commerce days are not the best when looking to catch the fish of a lifetime... the chances are much better in foul weather!
Good Luck to everyone coming down!

See you on the Lake ,

hey guys wanted to give some praise to kurt, I was the client on the 10th. Kurt took us out even though it was nasty unfavorable weather, he asked if we still wanted to go and when i said yes he never batted an eye, he was very well prepared knew exactly where he wanted to take us and what pattern we needed to fish. All i need to say is He put us on fish and we put fish in the boat ,, fantastic trip would recommend kurt to anyone wanting to fish Amistad and have a damn good time doing it. Thanks again kurt.
