I am looking at getting back into carp fishing. Did lots in Europe(Germany/Italy). Does anyone have any idea if there are Carp in the Winnie or Beaumont area. Maybe even Anahuac/Liberty area? If someone needs a fishin buddy, let me know. Thanks.

There are some in that lake that boomtown is on. Don't know about public access though. You also ought to try some red fishing off high island if you haven't yet either

They seem to be most places carp are. I don't know anythat get too big around our area but in Dallas and Austin I think some big ones have been caught, especially in Austin. We still have a lot of exploring to do in our neck of the woods to find that big buff lake

Buffs will be in nearly every creek/bayou that have year-round water flow. Not always big, but they'll be there.
The Sabine and Neches watersheds above Beaumont are both known for large buffs.

What bait do you use? same for carp? same rig? Does the hair rig and maize or homemade boilies work? If so, what flavors? I have been making cinnamon and strawberry boilies along with vanilla flavored maize. Will this work? I am also riggin my german rods with a bolt rig and a sliding ledger. Any ideas?

Sounds like everything you said would work well, but I'll try to break out my opinions for each topic:

Rigs -> most on this board use a hair rig and it is effective with boilies or maize. Which kind of rig (blow back, helicopter, etc.) that you use is a matter of preference as everyone has their favorite. I like the blow back rig on a sliding ledge with a 3oz weight (for example). I used a bolt rig in the past, but I'm too lazy to fix my lead now.

Bait -> Boilies and maize both work. I'm cheap so I use maize. I hear boilies catch bigger fish but they cost a lot more - especially if you prebait. No matter where you fish, I'd recommend prebaiting. Other popular baits are chickpeas.

Flavors ->My favorite is cherry. I've caught on vanilla, chili, spicy strawberry, strawberry, unflavored, sugar, etc. I think you'll find everyone has a different flavor. A lot of people like anise flavoring too.

Method/Packbait -> Not sure if you fish this way, but many of us do on this forum. May be something to consider. I fish method with a combination of oats, maize, flavored water (from my hook bait maize bucket), and bird seed.

Nick, what did you mean by "that lake that Boomtown is on". Is that off West Port Arthur road? What about Taylor's Bayou off Hildebrant Road? Do you know any fish and wildlife folks?

If you type in that address that I posted earlier into Google Maps, you will see the Boomtwon RV resort. I know some people have camped there and caught. Its right on the side of the lake. I don't know about Taylor's Bayou, but it should be OK as well. I don't know any fish and wildlife folks either unfortunately.

Livingston has loads of buffalo, but not much of size has been caught...there aren't any water body records for it either. So any of you who want to see your name on the record books... wink

sorry, i wrote it backwards because of where i live. if you're coming from winnie, it'll be after beaumont on I-10 going east. it'll be on the left side. you can't miss it, there's water slides and a trailer park. good luck, and happy hunting!
