Has anyone used a Tohatsu outboard before Can you get parts for them? I found one for DIRT CHEAP, but it would be worthless if parts are unavailable. I had to ask, I have never heard of the company before.

If I'm not mistaken tohatsu is actually a nissan motor with a different name on it. Call Advantage Marine in Wylie, I believe they service Nissan. I have a 50HP nissan and never had any problems since I've owned it.

I think this engine is marketed under the Sears Brand called Gamefisher. I have a 3.0hp version, still looks like new. I use it with my canoe.

I have a 70hp tohatsu and you have to get parts through authorized service dealers which when I checked about a year ago there were two in Dallas, I use the Rigg Shop in Rowellett (the do good work and the owner will tell you straight up the cost and time it will take to fix) From everthing I have read Tohatsu are really long lasting motors that are more know in the saltwater and Commerical fishing markets.

Where did you find that Tohatsu? I recently bought a 17' sqare stern canoe and while I use a trolling motor I'm quickly figuring out that the gas engine might be the way to go.

E-Bay In the e-bay motors section. It ended up selling for $300, but some other brands have been selling for under $200 lately. I am just waiting for the IRS refund, then I will be purchasing one. I finally got my 2 man to float and I also quickly figured out I need a better system for getting away from the launch.
