I have a motorguide trolling motor that is hand controlled. It has a control box mounted on the deck with a on/off switch, high speed bypass, and a speed control dial.

I have two problems....

#1 When I have the motor running on anything above about half speed it is very noisy. It sounds like the shaft is wobbling. I do not think that the shaft is bent. The prop does not wobble and it is not loose.

#2 When I kick the button on the motor sometimes does not come on. It acts like a bad switch. Usually if I hit the high bypass it will turn on and then continue to operate when I turn the bypass off. Also if I jiggle the forward/reverse toggle switch up on the head of the motor it will usually turn on.

My questions are:

Do I need to have the motor overhauled?

Who do you recommend?

Where can I find a switch to replace the faulty one if it is just a switch going bad?

Any help would be appreciated.

txstr,

I haven't used this place for repairs, but I have bought parts from them. They may be able to give you some advice.

All-star electronics is on Buckner blvd (Loop 12) and hwy 30 in Dallas. They do very good work, and are reasonable (compatible with others). I had my Motorguide repaired and they took less than a week, in May, so should not take very long to get it done. Good fishing
