Seriously - I wonder how many of the fish which are caught in Mexico spend the rest of their lives in US water after they are released back into the lake.

Maybe that is why everyone stays on the US side and fishes over there except me. haha

These dislocated fish experience many hardships. From culture shock to language barriers I would think many attempt to get back to their homeland as soon as the opportunity arises. If I catch a fish I suspect to be of Mexican descent, I will transport them across the border an repatriate them to their homeland.

Jokes aside, I do think that the Velano area probably has a big population of huge fish, many of them transplanted from other parts of the lake. I just have trouble getting myself to fish it much becuase I love running my boat too much.

I would guess a whole lot of the fish go right back where they came from... especially the big bass

No way those big fish are swimming back 30 miles down south.

Why couldnt they?

"The Sam Rayburn fish all 6- and 7-pounders were caught north of the State Highway 147 Bridge and taken 18 miles south to Twin Dikes Marina for weigh-in. Thats where Hope planted the transmitters and released the fish.

Hope relocated his study fish a week later. Amazingly, all but one of them had made the 18-mile journey back home. They were positioned in the same areas where they were caught a week earlier."

Seems pretty clear to me that they could... unless you think this study is bogus, or mexican bass dont have the will power that Texan bass do lol.

Alot of similar studies have been done, and for the most part, the results are the same. More so with the older bass, who seem to become territorial, and will travel many miles to return to the area they were removed from. They seem to have a built in homing device.

I believe the big bass will travel back to their stomping grounds where they feel safe and know the area!

I know what statistics say, but it is just darned hard to believe that fish trek back to their original hangouts. I know it's been proven, though. Do you think they make a beeline once released, or stop along the way for a little strange, and then get back on track. No wonder these green fish are so hard to catch at times.

I tell you what would be cool; to have an underwater camera that was clear to see perfect and view just how many fish are underneath the surface @ Falcon, US or Mex side......it would be mind-boggling to say the least!

OK......I'm done with my assonine thoughts for the day.

I doubt enough big bass that spend the day in a livewell survive the following week anyways... Our bass boats dont arnt half as big as they should be to support a 5 fish stringer on falcon.

They should film that Hook and Look show down there... That would be awesome like Okie said just to see what is swimming around down there, both numbers and size! Might need to take a harpoon and a spanish dictionary just for saftey purposes though lol

Most of them end up doing cheap manual labor and return home to Mexico once a year to see their family.
