I’m looking to replace my old 14’ PolarKraft with a 15’ semi-vee Grizzly. I’m looking for a little more room and taller sides. I like the fact that I can get a model with a 20” transom and just about the perfect size to max out my trailer and garage. Does anyone have any experience with any of these boats? I can’t remember right off hand but I believe the model I was looking at was a 1548L.
I don’t expect my current Evinrude 9.9 to push it to well but I would think a 25hp or so would do pretty well. I think it’s actually rated for up to a 40hp.
Does the semi-vee design actually cut the water better than the standard flat bottom?
The only thing holding me back is the $1600 price tag!

Good choice for an all welded, mofified vee, Grissly. Works well in the chop(alot better than a flat bottom) but is still stable. Would have to recommend going to a 16'er at least. You'd appreciate the extra ride and room. Would not buy new unless I was planning on keeping it for 10 years or so. There are LOTS of used 16' allwelds out there for sale reasonably priced. I was going to do the same as you a while back with my old 14'er. Very glad I bought a late model 16'er and sold my old boat as a package. What I have now does rivers, lakes and bays very well. Mine is a Sea Ark, but War Eagle,Weldcraft,G3,Alumicraft are all about the same. Wasn't impressed by Bass Tracker much. (only my $.02 worth Tracker owners )

I hear you about going to a 16 footer...the only problem is I want to keep it in my little 19'garage. Which is just enough room for my little trailer and a 15' boat. Thanks for letting me know how the semi vee does in the chop. I will definitely keep that in mind.
We do have a larger boat in the family that I can use for open water duties. But for 90% of the type of fishing I do, having a little boat that I don't have to worry about keeping clean, getting scratched in the trees, spilling catfish bait in, or whatever just makes alot more sense. I couldn't imagine being without a smaller boat like this, be it the one I have now or the little bigger grizzly.
I just checked out the HydrillaGorilla site and I'll have to order a book!
