I'm outfitting my Mako 171 for crappie fishing and I want to put a bow mounted trolling motor on. What thrust would be adequate? I know generally that mo' is betta' but I'm looking for "will do the job" in general conditions. I'm not likely to be on the lake with 20+ mph winds...

70-80 is what I'd recommend for that boat.

I have a 65-pound on my 18.5' Deep V. Wish I had a little more because I do fish higher winds if I have to. About 80 or so is as high as you can go on a 24-volt sytem, and that's what I'd recommend...and will be upgrading to that as soon as mine blows up

I'm selling my power drive V2 trolling motor off my old boat... I've added the quick release bracket, universal sonar, and it can be used with either the I-pilot or foot control.. It's a 70 # thrust with a 60" shaft... This was on my deep-V alumacraft... New the trolling motor is $1099.99, with no add-ons. With the add-ons and foot control, I'm asking $850.00... P.M. me with any questions....

I never appreciated a good trolling motor until this spring. Trying to stay on the fish with my 40lb thrust trolling motor was useless. Moved up to a 60lb unit and it was much better but not quite what I needed. Put a 70lb unit on my 17ft Nitro and now I am golden.

I have a 43# that holds up in .15 mph winds just fine.. its on a 18.5 stratos. My bud has a 60# on his 19.5 stratos and mine runs better. I will upgrade later to a 71# but for now mine wrks great in wind and with no wind.

I've got an 80# Riptide on my 20' Skeeter Bay, cracked the "Indestructable" composite shaft when I hit a stump a week or so ago. No complaints with the 80# performance, but if I can figure out how to get a fourth battery under the center console I'll probably go to the 36v 101# thrust on the next one.

Thanks guys. I was thinking at least 70lb. with a longer shaft. I have two 12v batteries so I'll take a shot in the dark that I'm limited to a 24v system. Now I'll need to find room for another battery...

My 17 1/2' Stratos came with a 12v 40# and I was totally unaware of how inadequate it was until I put a 24v 70# Maxxum on the bow. The 1st real test was the CAT Tournament on Palestine in July when I was on it pretty hard for 8 hrs & at the end of the day, 100% could still jerk me in my seat. As was said, get the biggest you can afford and at least 24v. My
