I know I was doing something right cause I ended up with 2 blues about 4 lbs and 2 pounds and a channel that would go 6lbs. I was drifting using a 1 oz egg above the swivel an 18 inch leader with a small peg float about 4 inches above a 3/0 circle hook baited with cut shad or whole shad.
The question I have is what are the productive areas I should be targeting? rocky points? deep creek channels? flats?
The reason I am asking is I figured the action should have been a lot better today.
I had my drift bag out but the wind still had me moving at a decent rate.
Calm days better than windy days?

Some wind is usually better- a lil chop on the water to oxygenate water and stir up the fish- I hear. U gotta have GPS finder to measure speed...between .5 and .8 mph usually.....if u don't have GPS to measure speed u'll just have to do trial n error.....do a drift or two then speed up or slow down on next one - Get a 2nd drift sock or throw out a five gallon bucket -........usually u would drift over fish u had marked on fishy finder........but rocky bottoms, creek channels, old roads/ railroad tracks, dropoffs, bowls or humps etc.....

also try adjusting your leader lentghs- if 18 inch leaders aren't producing go to 24-28 inch leaders...... 3/0 circle hooks kinda small...most use 5/0-7/0 or 8/0

vary bait cuts too......sometimes whole shad works, sometimes shad chunks, somedays heads, somedays fillets........

Use your electronics and find the bait, then you will find the fish. Channels, ledges, humps etc.

I fish Palo Pinto. The lake does not lack on bait. There is bait all over the lake. It is easy to see the fish under the shad.
The blues were not stocked until 2007 and 2008 so there are not any monsters yet but good eating size. Between 2007 and 2008 TPWD stocked about 250,000. The biggest I have caught have been 6-7 lbs. There are some big channel and flatheads though. A friend of mine caught a 20lb+ channel one day during our 30 minute lunch break. He took off and got it weighed for the lake record. still stands.
