I'd like to start going to tournaments to learn more, but I've only got a jon boat with no livewell. Are there any bass clubs in Dallas that allow for coangler spots? And what's proper etiquette for coanglers, how many rods do you bring? How much tackle? Anything else I need to know? Thanks.

There are plenty of clubs that do that. The majority of bass club members fish with a partner from what I have seen. I joined RHBC and most have partners but sometimes there are openings. I have plans to get a better boat later this year or early next so I may be looking for a partner then. If so I would be happy to help you out possibly with a spot or just going out for some fun fishing.

Some coanglers are asked to split all the costs like gas and entry. Some times you are offered a ride if you just pay your half of the entry since they had to buy the gas anyway to fish by themselves. It just depends on the boat owner. I have a rod bag that I bring 4 rods in and a backpack type tackle bag plus a small cooler with lunch and some drinks. Don't bring a ton of rods and tackle boxes to just have in case. Most likely you will be fishing from the rear deck so you will have less room to lay out a ton of rods and tackle boxes.

Remember it is his/her boat and they will have a style that could be much different then yours so learning or working on all types of fishing styles is encouraged here. Also along with that talk about the plan before the fishing day. The may have it all planned out where they want to fish but might listen to our ideas on what spots to hit. Talk about their style of fishing to help cut down on the tackle you bring too. No use bringing topwater if you will be cranking or jigging most of the day.

Thanks for that. Do you know if there is an easy way to find local bass clubs? I'm in uptown Dallas, and I'm having a hard time finding clubs that fish locally (Vine, Lewisville, Ray Hubbard, Lavon).

Take a look at our club. Osprey Bass Anglers. We are out of Fort Worth and have been around since 1988. We fish tournaments Feb-Nov and have a draw format. At our club meetings one week prior to the tournament non-boaters and boaters are randomly drawn from a hat and paired to fish that tournament. This year we fished Fork, G-Vine, and Lewisville just to name few. Below you will see our website. If you have any question please feel free to PM me.
