For some reason I just can't figure out Fayette. Fished Saturday afternoon and evening. Started fishing around the rip rap with no luck- then dragged a carolina rig around the trees for a while, moved to points with the C-rig, then tried shallow in the evening with topwater and flukes. Only action came off of the top water but they were not eating it... just sort of investigating. Only saw one person catch a bass and he was in the middle of the lake. Heard alot of splashing way back in the reeds but no way to get there- not even sure if the noise was fish or something else. Does summer on Fayette mean having brush piles and creeks marked with GPS and fishing small areas deep? Any help is appreciated!

The fish I caught last week were deep. I believe that they are scattered and chasing shad right now. You can also catch them in grass beds, pitching plastics. Surface water is 100 at the dishcharge to 89.3 main lake points.

Fayette is a real easy like to fish. This time of year the fish chase bait. If your in an area and see no bait fish or activity, move away. The fish on Fayette always bite, you may need to fish with a Rat-l-Trap to cover water, top water bait or even a square bill crank bait. The soft plastics work well around trees and points. Guide trips are only $250 on that Lake. Try Brandon at xtremebass.com He offers a educational experience and has a video about the lake. Super nice guy with lots of experience. Here is a link to his video about Fayette.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIgjw2Vv_xw

I have had the same feelings about Fayette and it seems either everyone is catching fish or no one seems to be. It's easy to fish when they are biting but I feel its difficult to figure out when its tough unless you are on the lake alot. Also the fish move around alot on Fayette and it's so small every spot is a community hole.

The fish do move a lot. Didn't catch any fish in this one spot I fished last week, but the last three times before caught over 20. The lake changes constantly and some of the changes are very drastic. Where we were catching them the area had patches of grass, but when we were not the area was overgrown with grass.

Don't forget presentation. Just because they aren't biting doesn't mean they are not there.

2 words for you......SHALLOW REEDS! They are there....I promise. Bounce your plastic off the base of the reeds and let it soak. Dead stick it back. I will be out there Sunday in my kayak.....if you're out there, flag me down and I can show you what I mean. Blue yak launching at OT side.

This time of year is.. sort of yucky on some days. Be nice to find some schoolies, but havent seen any Real schools since August, was out there on the 21st, lake like glass, spent way too much time looking for em. One of my best go to's on Fayette is hit Main Point, and throw out your favorite worm, point goes way out toward the plant, and try different depths, last time was out there found em in around 10 foot of water, close in. Try lettin the wind push you quietly around instead of banging around on the point with trolling motor. Another standby is get up on the dam, fish it paralel instead of straight at it, Caught many a fish in the 16 foot zone, at the base of the dam. Plan on being back out Wednesday, maybe can give a Good Review!
