anyone ever use the less desirable pieces of meat from a catfish they filleted for use as cut bait? how successful were you using catfish meat to catch more catfish?

Using any part of a gamefish for bait is illegal.Catfish are gamefish!!!

good to know. what about bullheads? Anyone ever use a bullhead for cutbait as opposed to hooking a live one and letting it free line?

bullhead would be legal but I always here of them being fished live with fins snipped off......

I have used bullhead as cutbait. Never did much good with it.

The belly meat and the cheek meat are not less desirable. Those are the best cuts.


Try coating them in seasoning then cooking them very fast in a hot well oiled castiron skillet. Put the blackened belly meat in a warm corn tortilla, top with queso fresco, a little dry coleslaw, and some peach jalepeno salsa.

Or top a bed of dirty rice with them and add a little remoulade.

Or but them on fresh hunk of frenchbread, top with spicy mayo, lettuce, tomato, snappy dill pickles and salt and pepper.

+1, especially on a yellow cat. For blues and channels that are large enough, i separate the belly meat and fillet off the silver lining thingy. Makes for some purty white meat.
