Howdy everyone,

Quick question, if I have two battaries linked in parallel to power a 12V trolling motor and I have a enough banks on my on board charger/conditioner, is there any danger in hooking one bank to each battery? Or do I have to use only one bank to charge the two batteries b/c they are in parallel?

Thanks in advance!

unhood one wire from the batteries to charge, then use the two banks.
series you don't need to unhook since there is not a complete circuit between them, parallel there is.

It will charge fine without unhooking any wires. Just hook 1bank to each battery.

Thanks everyone, looks like I am stuck waiting on one bank to charge them in parallel, unless I want to be proactive and break the circuit. I really appreciate how helpful everyone on the forum is.

Gig'em!

Thats a bold statement considering you have no idea what charger he has.

If your using two banks of the charger definately unhook 1 of the bridgeing wires between the batteries. When that magic puff of smoke comes out of your charger I don't think Greg will be there to help pay for it.

Chargers are made to charge a 12v battery no matter how it is wired. If it has 2 banks it will charge 2 batteries independe
ntly.

If your hooking the charger to two batteries connected in parallel the charger reads them as one battery. It has no idea there is two and will charge as if it's one. So you wouldn't put two chargers on one battery and you shouldn't put two charger banks on 2 batteries in parallel.

I would get a good charger that redirects the amperage to the bank that needs it most and it will speed the charging of the two in parallel, If your set on not disconecting a wire.

I would just put a switch between the batteries so you dont have to disconnect.(I am not an expert, please verify this before you try it) but it should work as they would not longer be connected.

That switch would work great!

I'm going to get the switch, as I'm lazy and want the batteries to charge faster, but don't feel like disconnecting and reconnecting the leads from the batteries each time. One last question, I only need to break the pos connection not both the pos and neg right? Thanks again everyone.

Yes, just 1 wire is all you need to disconnect.
