I fished Capps Smith pond/park in Watauga off 377 this evening, caught 1 bass withing the first 5 min... .an hour later... caught a turtle, and that was it.

There is so much built up algae and trash on the sides, you really can't fish it right now. I found one little opening, but the pond really isn't fishable until it gets cleaned up. Too much algae in it. Could be some good fish in there though, just not fishable (can't cast out far enough past the algae)

Yep I fished it in the spring before the algae set in.

Will the Algae ever go away? Will someone from the city come and clean it up? Or is this pond done for now?

I have caught many big cats (for that size of a place) out of there in the past. gone there for years. Chicken livers is all i can get em to hit on that and worms from my speical place lol. I have pulled between 5-10lbs before dont know if there are any left now though

If it walks I can hunt it, if it swims I can catch it.
If I dont, I'm havin a bad day.

I used to fish there daily. This is how to catch em

spring thru fall
1. small purple top white bottom cotton cordell jerkbait (cast towards water fountain)
2. Top water plastic frog on the moss (work slow and rig weedless)
3. senko worn watermelon green at the water fountain
4. top water pop-r at the spillway.
5. weedless white or smokin shad soom super fluke
6. rattle trap (early spring)

Winter:
Jerkbaits, pumkinseed jigs

I stay 5 mins from the pond. I fish it every now and then. Don't be afarid of the grass. The mats are only on the top. Punch thru the surface mat. Its not thick underneath. Look for places where the pond weed meets the hydrilla. I catch fish all the way to bank in those mats.

Use a heavy grass jig(3/4oz to 1oz) or a Craw with a heavy sinker (same size). Use a stiff rod, and nothing less than 20lb test. Braid preferred.

I went out there this morning from 9:45 to 11:20. I caught 3 bass and missed one. Actually he missed the jig. Nothing big, 12-14". I didn't take a single cast more than 9ft in front of me.
