Went out today to try some different structures than yesterday. Started close to home at Saint Annes Point East - a long, narrow point sharply falling off on both sides. Marked fish where point peak was 12 ft. Had a limit of 12 to 14 inch whites in 30 minutes. Next spot was East Hump. Fish were in 22 ft water but would not bite. Went to Mid-lake Hump and marked lots of bait and fish at 21 ft, but again I could not get them to bite. So, figured fish were in the familiar summer pattern where you have to go to 10-14 ft water. Key Ranch was close so went there where 12 ft drops off into 30 ft and marked fish on slope from 12 to 17 ft. Caught another 25 fish there then moved on to check a couple of other shallow structures. Marked a few fish at Key Ranch North, but didn't stop to fish. Went on to Old Pond Dam and marked a good number on 11 ft top. Stopped there and caught another 12 fish by noon and headed in. Total caught was 62: 57 whites, 4 cats and an LMB.

#2 silver Mepps was definitely better than the #4 today.

I thought of a new theory to explain the shallow feeding pattern even though fish were also down at 20 to 22 ft. I noticed as I approached Mid-lake Hump that bait seemed to be concentrated at about 20 to 22 ft in the 35 ft water and stayed at that depth as I moved over the 21 ft hump. I'm thinking the thermocline must be about 22 ft. Whites that are down at that depth must have barely enough oxygen and are just down there to stay cool - not enough oxygen/energy to chase bait. When they get hungry they move to shallower water where oxygen content is good and look for schools of bait fish. Well, it's logical whether or not it's the true reason.

I've read studies where some fish were believed to move shallower to feed in warmer water to speed up there metabolism and help to digest there food. I agree that the shallower fish are the ones that are feeding the best at this time.

Billy, I assume that means you haven't been fishing lately!? No customers? Too hot? Too busy?

It's 6:25pm and we haven't gotten a drop of rain at my place. The temp dropped but no rain. Maybe they got some on the far north end. We will be out tomorrow maybe the temps will be cooler.

news said Kemp got .35 inches........that ought to bring the lake up.........ha...... man o man.....when is it going to end...... only place it will rain is close to the dove hunting spots so the birds will not need to come to the only pond with water in a 2 mile radius........strategy out the window.......

2 o'clock AM Thursday and thunder woke me up. Radar shows a thunder shower from Athens to north end of Cedar Creek moving NE to SW. Pretty good rain here at So end of CC for about 5 min. That's it.
