How would you feel about a moratorium (i.e. 7-10 days) between the stocking of freshwater trout in the Canyon River Tailrace and when they can be legally fished?
It seems to me that having such a "no fishing" period would reduce some of the angling pressure and allow the trout to take up some more "natural" lies.
Many State-stocked streams in NJ and PA have such a thing...some as long as 2 weeks after supplemental stocking takes place.
Either that, or not make the stocking dates public.
Seriously, just curious, what are your opinions?

Wouldn't hurt my feelings. I have always avoided these areas on stocking dates as there are way too many people around to fish comfortably anyway. If I do have a trip planned right after a stocking on the Guadalupe (totally coincidence), I fish the fly fishing only area to avoid the masses.

How about this:
From the dam WAY down to past where they stock the constant limit is keeping ONE trout and it has to be over 18".
Micah 6:8 He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Yeah, in a few places I've even heard that as soon as you keep 1 legal fish, you have to stop fishing. The San Juan is one of them.

I fished Lake Taneycomo in Branson, MO. a couple of weeks ago and they have an in between limit. If the fish is between 12-24 inches you have to throw it back. I went on a tour of the hatchery and the release dates are not published. Also the fish that they release are generally larger than the 10-12 inch limit. Now on the flip side I fished Beavers Bend in Oklahoma and they publish the release dates and locations. I don't like fishing like that. It was wall to wall people.

I fished Taneycomo last fall and have never caught so many 18" to 20" fish on a dry fly. There were a lot of people, and the traffic is terrible, but that slot has made a lot of fishermen very happy.
