I have navionics Platinum South. Is there a way to use the card in my computer to view maps?
If so how do you do it?

I believe you can download a computer edition once you plug the SD in and register it.

exactly cool once you do that it should upload automatically, or just pull it up through "My Computer" and it should be pretty explanatory from there.

Tried that, I aslo loaded the PC app after I updated and it did not work. For as much as I am on a computer I should know more about them.

Plug the card into a generic reader then go to www.navionics.com.

Click "get the freshest data" (you will have to install Adobe Air) and follow the prompts. At the "enter store" tab you will see a an option to get a chart update OR the PC application (free with chart purchase). Get the PC application (on right).

Follow registration prompts and it should download in under 10 minutes (mine takes about 2).

Its a good application (esp for free!) and we are adding features regularly. The UGC layer is active on the PC application, this is where you can add information (hazards, stumps, restaraunts, services, etc) and share that info instantaneously with any other PC app user or Mobile app user.

I registered and it told me my Chart was up to date. I know this was wrong as I bought the chip a couple months ago, long before you(Jeff) listed out all the new updates. So I told it to download anyway, it took about an hour(I have a 20/20mb FiOS connection) but all seemed to go well. Have not tried it out yet.

I also pulled the PC app. I am on a Mac and it seemed to d/l ok, but everytime I fire up the app, I get about a minute or two, just enough time to zoom into a lake, then it crashes. I have thought about uninstalling and re-downloading but am worried that it would think I was trying to load to another computer and not allow me to.

Got any ideas?

edit: Also, the Navionics website has a trouble report system, but it is only for chart accuracy, not for application problems.

I uninstalled the PC App and have not tried to reload it yet. Hopefully it will let me.

FYI... I work for Fugawi.com and we offer some solid Windows software called Fugawi Marine ENC 4.5 and Navionics NavPlanner 2, both of which can read in Navionics cards like Platinum+, HotMaps Premium, Gold, Fish N Chip, others. The Fugawi Marine ENC 4.5 can be used for free for 10 days, there's a demo download on the page at http://www.fugawi.com/web/products/fugawi_marine_enc-ca.htm . This is charting / GPS software, a bit more than the free web based viewer option. Might be relevant for some of you -- not meaning to do a formal plug or anything, just hoping the info might be useful to some of you.

On the Mac OS X, I don't happen to know of anything out there to read the Navionics cards. There's MacENC software with X-Traverse.com downloads of Navonics charts for the USA and elsewhere, but there's no connection between the physical Navionics card and the X-Traverse downloads, no cross-promo there. Sorry I can't think of any fix there. The crash log looks like what I'd expect for a PC-based service trying to be used on the Mac. But I suspect you could use virtual Windows on a Mac (ex. Parallels for Mac, or VMWare Fusion) to do the whole PC app experience with your Mac OS X hiding underneath so to speak.
