Did not fish today, went around taking several photos. I have had several PMs asking about the water level at Benbrook, and is it safe? TPW website says benbrook is 10 foot low, i trully believe its a little more than that. Saw a couple smaller boats and pontoons out today, you can still launch at the 2nd ramp at mustang. Dont know how much longer, maybe a week or a little more. I havent tried and probably will not launch my boat untill we get some much needed rain.

First 2 photos Benbrook Marina...

Next photos are from a long point south of the RC plane filed, this point is usually for the most part 10/12 foot deep.

As you can see im standing at the end of point taking photo towrads my truck on the bank, over a 100 yards to the bank now!

But as you can see with the levels dropping daily that it doesnt affect someone making money ( other than the little people) this is a pump running full blast to pump water to the well site.

Last few photos are from various ramps.....

As you can see and already know, WE NEED RAIN BAD!!!!

I think a lot of lake are in this kind of shape. Ivie seems to be dropping a foot a week. Every weekend when we go out there is new stump or tree tops appearing.

I think oak creek is dropping a foot a week, makes keeping up with the crappie tuff. Won't be long til the ramps are out of the water, will be surprised if the ramps are usable in September or October.

Can someone explain how the Feds count recreational Red Snapper catch?

Even with significant rain, Benbrook will be so low most ramps will be unusable. As long as the weather stays like it is, with no rain, the water usage will remain very high. I'm surprised they have not put some serious restrictions on water use with the lakes getting so low. I think it was two years ago that Benbrook didn't start to recover till late fall. Really bad news for me because I bought a boat primarily because I'm 10 minutes from the lake. I don't have much time to fish so it was a perfect match. Unfortunately only one year of good consistant fishing has been realized. Too bad!

I appreciate the TFF.

I second the water restriction need, but I suspect too much money is made selling water to get restrictions in place until things are beyond critical. West Texas probably should stay under restrictions as most of those lakes only get full during major flood events, even then I am sure many of these lakes would be to low to use the ramps.

Good informative post Kerry. I've noticed this year more than any other dry year that Benbrook and Lake Arlington are drying up much faster. The crazy thing is that both lakes have significant Gas well operations all around compared to the past. The extremely large amounts of water it takes to operate those wells must be coming from the closest source which I've noticed are the these two lakes.

Thanks for the post Kerry . . . . . sadly, I have a set of pictures eerily similar to these from a few years back when the lake got to 14 ft low. Unfortunately, we're headed there again. The only saving grace is that the lake refills very rapidly during heavy rains, but who knows when those rains will come.

I remember that, actually we wound up 17 foot low that year, but i have also seen it when it was 20 foot high. I posted the pic with the pump to a gas rig trying to be a smarta$$, because i am at level 5 water restrictions, means no outside watering at all what so ever, that blows because i ( we the wife and i) just re-planted the backyard full of st augustine grass a few months ago. Cant water it but the golf couses and the well site can use whatever they want daily....

Ok, back to the original subject, WE NEED RAIN!

Robert1, i know how you feel, with my guide service, Benbrook is number one lake, because of the hybrid population, but its tough when the water level fluxs so much from time to time.

oh well, there is nothing we can do about it, but just sit back and wait for a good time to get out on the water

Yea I just bought a new pass for the year bc Benbrook is only 15 min from the house and thought bc of the water being pumped from cedercreek that the lake would not get this low.Someone told me that lake worth bought a bunch of water from Benbrook and thats why it got so low so fast,

Wow
So sad to see Kerry ! I swear the 3 days I was just on CC it dropped a few inches. But it is in a world of better shape than what you have shown Benbrook to be.

Damn I hope the fish survive!
