Fished today for the first time in about 3 weeks....

It was a beautiful day, but warm, as in VERY warm. Great to be back on the lake.

Got on the lake at 6:30 am. Launched out of McCown. Had made a run down to Whitney yesterday to check the ramps. Corps had worked on the ramps at McCown and Lofers East. On the surface, McCown looked good and Lofers East looked better. While McCown has remained open (as in not closed), I am not sure how well folks were doing launching from there. Even after the Corps brought in a Bobcat or something this past week, it was still very shallow with a narrow path from the ramp to the lake, Rocks on the right side of the ramp...the Boss had nasty words for them loading the boat (stay to the left side of the ramp).

Winds were about 10 this morning. Water was stained mid-lake. Water temp was 88 to 93 (well that's what the temp gauges on the depth finders said). Fished with a worm some and think it melted.

We fished until 9:30... the Boss had one 15 incher. Since we had not been out there in a while we didn't know where NOT to fish... we eliminated some of that water. We saw no active shad, though we did see an Alabama fish finder or two, but they had their heads under their wings trying to find shade. Nothing on topwater, nothing on a crank bait. Only had the one bite, I think she hit him in the head with it. Did mark some fish on deep ledges (20'), but they didn't bite.

Check my blog Whitney Lake Online for detail pictures from yesterday's ramp evaluation trip and dam construction updates.

Bring on the rain, and bring on that 35 degree weather.

Love the Whitney reports. We are heading down for a few days at the en of September. What can we expect that time of year? I've only fished Whitney in the spring. Thanks for any help.

The lake is a little over 14 feet low right now. Lots of new islands. Strange to be running down the middle of the lake where there is normally 20 feet of water to find that you are in 5 foot of water. Ramps are reducted to 3 or 4 that are good.

For us, fall fishing is normally great, as good or better than the sping.. but it can be October or November before the water cools and the bass fishing gets really good. Winter fishing is the best...

Whitney is rocky points, deep ledges and schooling shad... find those and you will usually find fish. Right now, you are going to easily find those points and ledges because they are out of the water.
