 Grapevine Thursday. Tips?

Have to be on the lake from noon to 4 pm. Any tips on where/if the sandies might be schooling?

SB's follow shad. They can be anywhere. Look for birds working the surface and/or a flotilla of boats. Either one of those will indicate fish.
If no boats or birds or surfacing fish, then check the humps out from Murrell Park, check around the island and between the island and the dam. Check the bubble machine by the dam. The oxygen draws shad and shad draw the game fish.
I assume you are going to fly fish. If so, use popping lures worked fast and making lots of noise. Also streamers will get the fish. Main problem with fly fishing is that you need shallow fish. Good luck.

I agree with Mild Bill, the fish you can get at with the fly rod are going to be shallow or close to the surface, and it is very hard to get and stay close enough to fly them, so take along the spinning gear just in case. I use the spinning gear to locate the fish and then will switch to the fly once I've located them.

unless you are patient and have full sinking line....
I have a full-sink line and if I count down enough, I can get pretty deep. Its much easier when they are surfacing though.

Flyfished the Vine on Saturday and despite the rude LMB Tourney guys buzzing us, we managed to catch a dozen Sandies near the bubbles. Clouser minnows worked best. Haven't fished the Vine in a while but the fish seemed to have improved in size. We actually did better with a floating line v.the sink tip. The fish would surface occasionally. My 11 year old as usual caught the biggest. Its so much fun to have a fishin buddy.
