 Lightweight reel for Orvis 1 oz.-advice needed

I was out in southern California recently, and had no intention of buying a rod, but I happened in to Bob Marriott's fly fishing store(a really cool place), and you know how that goes. Anyway, I fell in love with a little Orvis 1 oz. 2wt 6'6" rod and just couldn't help myself. I have a small Cortland size 40 Rimfly reel, but it seems a little heavy for this rod. I'm looking for a really light 2 wt. reel to go with this beutiful little rod. I bought it for those little small brush choked brook trout streams, and have no need for a lot of backing. BTW, this thing is a beauty to cast. I highly recommend the Sage Quiet Taper II line for small rigs to anyone who has not tried it. This baby is sweet! Any suggestions for a nice little lightweight reel to balence out this rod?

An Orvis 3/4 Battenkill (2 to 5 wt line) is 4 oz for disc and 3.5 oz for spring and pawl version ($85) and an Orvis 3/4 Clearwater weighs 4.4 oz ($28). These are a couple of good quality reels, about the lightest you can get without dipping into the kids college fund. I think I would go with the Battenkill spring and pawl. At 3.5 oz that should balance that little 6'6" 2 wt just fine. The little set up should be some serious fun for panfish as well as a small stream trout rod. Doug

Sounds like the Battenkill spring and pawl may be the ticket. Do you know anything about Lamson LP1 light? Saw one at flyanglersonline message board listed with some 2 wt stuff, but no weight given. $100 in excelent condition. My search engine did not give any good hits on this reel.

Jon, The LP is a great little reel. The weight listed is 3.75oz. Also take a look at the Litespeed. It is a large arbor reel that is a bit bigger in frame size but the weight is the same.Heres the link to their site http://www.waterworks-lamson.com/ Haskell

Jon Was just wondernig if you had found a reel that suited your new rod? Have you had any chance to fish that little two weight? If not, may I suggest the Blue River up outside Tishomingo OK?
