Heading down this weekend, but rarely fish saltwater. I was told that trout and an occasional red or flounder can be found in the canals. Will be fishing mostly at night with underwater lights.
Can anyone help me with proper set up, line, hook size, weight, bait, etc.
Current bass set up is 20lb mono so I am hoping I don't have to change it.
Thanks to all for any help you can provide.

me personally, if you are down at Jamaica Beach, I'd go toward San Luis and fish the cut by the boat ramp on the bay side. gets deep quick in that little pocket and trout will school up in there sometimes. look for the birds.

I stayed at a house on the bay there last year in the middle of july and had a private dock with underwater lights. Caught trout every night with a few reds on live bait free lining. was a an awesome week of fishing besides the vampires that are the size of sparrows and dont be suprised to see a few alligator gar come strolling through after midnight. Have fun and good luck!

You shouldn't have to change your rod/reel setup. You can't go wrong with live shrimp! Either under a cork or with a small weight.
