I have a nice clean 2000 model Champion 186 with a 150 and have been looking for a 20'+ boat to handle the bigger water, but I have missed a few deals because I will need to sell mine first. Would you sell and risk being boatless for possibly several months or keep it? I can't decide - ya'll help me with the pros and cons

How many buddies with boats do you have? How bad would it hurt you financially to have 2 at one time?

Take the buyer when you find one. You'll only be boatless as long as you want to be. Buyers are MUCH more difficult to find than boats in this economy.

Unless you have plenty of cash and a place to store two boats, sell the old one first. Clean Champs usually sell pretty fast, so you shouldn't have too much trouble unloading it.

I did the same thing recently and had 2 boats at once. I didn't have a note on my old boat. It was a good clean boat at a fair price and it sold very quickly. It seemed to me there was a good sellers market for fairly priced boats.
For what it's worth, it worked very well for me.

To answer the questions - I could afford to have 2 boats, the Champ has been paid off for several years, but I don't have room for 2 boats without parking one outside.
Thanks Zach, I like it too, but want one a little bigger and a tandem trailer. The 18 footer definitely gets through brush better but when I list the Pros and Cons I am still on the edge. I like not having a payment but I got the itch.........

I bought a second boat while still owning the first one... Mistake.. I was making 2-boat payments,2-insurance payments, and a storage payment ect... It took 8-9 months to sell the first boat for what I needed to get for it.. Your situation is a little different, only having a storage problem is a pc of cake.. If you find a 20-footer you want, I'd buy it. Otherwise I'd take the Manthers(fouzman) advice and sell the present boat and move on..
