Got another limit on reds at Calaveras. There have been schools towards the back of the lake near the railroad bridge. Caught em on tilapia on the bottom

How deep of water? What time of day did you fish.

The gene pool could use a little chlorine.

I guess I'm lost and not all that familiar with Calaveras. Where is the railway bridge you are talking about. confused

In this life there is fly fishing and tying...and then there is all that other stuff in between that doesn't matter.

Not too deep. in about 12 to 20 feet. Just looked at my fish finder till I found a school of fish towards the bottom and just fished. Any baitfish will work. It was also sort of early in the day as well. All were big also. smallest was 23 inches. And I had a huge fish on HUGE maybe around 36 inches. Went in one direction and never stopped. Eventually popped my line. I didnt keep any due to all the trout we still need to eat in the freezer. Not to mention the first fish I caught was a 26 incher with a rattle trap stuck in its throat. Dont think it wouldve survived but i safely took it out and released it. Made my whole day and also have a rattle trap in really good condition

And I guess if you had downriggers or were with a guide you could really go back there and tear em up

Caught a nice 17lb red and several in the 7-10lb range last Friday on Calaveras. All caught on downriggers trolling either rattle traps or green sassy shads. Most fish were caught in 15-25 ft of water.

Went out yesterday morning and caught 1 undersized red and a 24" outside of 181 cove trolling silver spoon but the reds are still slow

What else can you troll with besides spoons and rattletraps? That seems it could get expensive if you get hung up. Maybe some kinda swimbaits or something?

Soft plastics such as swimbaits work great. Anything that looks like a baitfish

you "can" troll ANYTHING you want behind the weight... who's to say what will work and what won't... you'd be suprised what baits i have in my rotation that people laugh at when they see 'em... they work tho.. if you use mono and get hungup it's easy to get back your lures, with braid a little harder to get em back as easy but all you have to do is bust a "U" and try and let slack in the line usuaally does the trick... you will inevitable lose some lures tho it's part of the game! high risk, high reward lol smile

I have a pair of downriggers on the way in the mail. Has anyone ever seen a them mounted on a bass boat? I have a tracker and I'm hoping that the deck in the back of the boat will be strong enough to hold them. Any suggestions?
