Ok, I'm at Lake Conroe for two weeks and was wondering if I should waste my time fishing for carp if there aren't any here. What should I be fishing for here? Thanks ahead of time for your answers. fish

There are also commons but you'll probably catch more grassers. There are also some sizable buffalo (30s) but, again, more likely to catch a grasser.

You won't catch anything but grass carp and channel cats but you'll catch a lot of them

While there are probably better baits, I have caught lots of grass carp under the FM 1097 bridge at Lake Conroe on Catfish Charlie Dough blood bait. I use it for channel cats, but the grass carp like it, too. My mom had a waterfront condo there a number of years ago, and an upstairs neighbor had a morning feeding for the carp- he wadded-up slices of white bread and threw them from his balcony into the water. The grassers loved it. So, the like "dough" bait, probably in about any form. As far as size, every one I have caught has been 28" to 34". They were all stocked during the same time period, so all are near the same age. They do not reproduce, so no small ones.

In March I caught two that were nearly identical at 18 lbs.
Oh, and both on maize (boiled deer corn).
