I will be in Port Isabel this whole week fishing. If anyone has any tips to find some big fish during this time of year let me know.

Yes, go to Port Mansfield smile

Honestly, hire a guide for a day & let him know that you would like to learn how to find fish in the area.

We're leaving in the morning, but the spots I found on the net are:

1. Behind the convention center.
2. Behind the IBC Bank
3. Pirates Pier (7.50 per pole; 1.50 for spectaters)
4. Jetti on the south end of the Island. (Looks like $4.00 per car to drive to that side of the island.)

Here is a link for tidal info:

Here is a link I just found this morning:

http://www.stxmaps.com/go/south-padre-island-fishing.html

We're on the gulf side and tried surf fishing. My nine year old cought a large mullet. She was glad to have cought it.

We tried Pirates Pier early in the morning and all that was biting were school trout. Oh, and needle fish.

Haven't had much time to try the other spots, but may visit the jetti to night. Just depends on how the day goes.

Goodluck!

Oh, I asked for some tips on another forum and got this recommendation for boat rental. The price is supposed to be reasonable, but time just hasn't worked out for fishing.

If you go behind IBC bank you should try the other side of the bridge near pier 19. park in the hard sand and wade out to about the 3rd power line pole and walk toward the bridge. My Uncle and I always fish there and we caught to many trout to count in 4 days there! 2 of them were around 6-7 lbs.
