 Minn Kota not runnin right even with new batteries

74lb thrust minn kota maxxum, felt like it was running on half power. Took it to the shop had it worked on and "fixed". Put new batteries in and still runs like its on half power. My jump cable is hooked up to battery 1 on the +, and connected to battery 2 on the -. Is that the problem? Any insight or answers would be awsome. Thanks all! Im no guru on wiring so judge if ya want to.
