I'm new to this BB and would appreciate some help. I'm wondering if anybody can recommend some decent fishing spots in the Galveston area for some guys w/o a boat. I'm very familiar with the area and just want to put my brother on some quality fish. Surf, wading, or whatever.

Welcome Eugene, this a great forum to say the least. I'm not much good for info on the Galveston Bay area, but a few things come to mind. Might try the Texas City Dike, also the jetties at Galveston. San Luis pass has a great pier I'm told, also has some good wade fishing however it has a reputation about the danger of wild currents and the bottom moving and the such.......might look into the area of the Refuge on the north shore I believe of East Galveston Bay. Believe it has some drive up wading, could be wrong. This post is going to be like shark fishing in the surf, you might wait a while then someone who knows the area will come along and give you plenty of info about the area. Ask it, and they will answer about it. Sorry I couldn't be much help, my area of knowledge is further south than Galveston. Good luck I know the Black Drum run should be taking off soon.

Eugene- Up until 2 months ago, I was stuck to the shores, as well. Been fishing West Galveston Bay for the last 10 years or so. I definitely agree with Too's recommendations. I've had the most success fishing the Texas City Dike. For trout, wade the bay side, and flounder are fairly good on the Moses Lake side. Caught most of the flounder fishing the weeds with mud minnows. Guess this time of year the water level is pretty low, but they should still be in there. As for San Luis Pass- great fishing nearly year round, but DO be aware of the currents if you wade there. Seen quite a few bull reds caught off of the pier there, also. TOO- I believe the black drum run is here. I caught about a 30lb'r last weekend in West Galveston Bay (Meacom's Cut). 1st bull black drum I've ever caught. Fun to catch on light tackle.

hey ! heard some good spots, i even fish a few myself. the beach front is a great place to fish off the rock groans or from the surf. three places to note would be the west down seawall 13 mile Rd. exit and or the 8 mile Rd. exit surf fishing can get pretty hot and heavy at times. you might also want to go east to the south jetties this is a rock jetty with some flat surfaces to walk ,but if you want to really get out there in the gulf you will have to walk the rough rocky areas. also the flat area at times may have algae so watch your step. this is a gold mine of fishing most of the time and is worth the effort. hope i was of help.

Sheephead, what would you recommend for lures or bait on he jetties? Slip float, bottom, or free-lining? Good stuff on your suggestions. Jake, I'm pleased that at least I gave an area where fish were caught once. Like I've said before, I wish that just once someone would catch a fish or two with my suggestions. 30# Black Drum on what pound test? Tough fighters, not flashy but hard on the equipment. Eugene with this colder weather, you might look for the deep water and fish Norton sand eeels S-L-O-W-L-Y on the bottom, or live bait. Go on out and catch some, you hear?

HEY GUY!! GOOD FISHING AND HANG A BIG ONE!. SHEEPHEAD

There are two very good books with tons of spots for the wader or kayaker. http://www.geocities.com/fishing_honey_holes/ $18.00 and Family Fishing Holes by Lorraine Leavell ISBN# 0-9628581-1-0 $11.95 Consider it as a $30 investment. I found mine at Half-Price books and saved some money.
