Any suggestions on the basic tackle/gear needed to fish around the Port Aransas area in about mid October?

Thanx

Wade, pier, jetty, boat? For boat wade and most pier fishing standard bass tackle will work 99% of the time. It's the 1% of the time that you want something bigger. Would suggest the surf or the edges of the channels for reds moving out to the gulf. Cut bait, like mullet will work.

Thanks for the advice Too,

A buddy of mine is heading down there, and asked me if I knew what he should take. I said "nope, but I bet I can find out for ya"

He did mention something about trying to get to some of the flats areas. I don't think they will have access to a boat while they are there, so I'll just tell him to take his regular gear, and save that money for bait.

Thanx

You could invest $20 or so in a cast net and $5 or whatever for a bait bucket...then have all the free mullet you want.

Just keep an eye on the bottom structure where you're catching bait. Nothing ruins your cast net faster than oyster shell, pilings, etc.
