TOO - Im heading down there this weekend, Ill be sure to have a piggy on one of my rods. I will catch that monster trout for you. Hopefully the wind wont be bad enough for me in my little boat this weekend. Another trip to port A this is the 3rd time in two months Im addicted to saltwater fishing, so much better than the local freshwater lakes here in san antonio.

BA1, I'm guessing you didn't head out there last weekend? I fished Fish Pas briefly Saturday late, about 7:30 or so until dark. There was a group with lines spread out that made the wade hard so I ended up in a harder area to wade. Caught two reds and two trout in about an hour. All undersized. Got to my brothers place about 10 pm we went over our game plan until 11:30 to fish the east shore area of Carlos/ mesquite bay. (Really, I do that when doing a real serious fish trip) Figured it would be a bit more salty. Got up at 4:15 am, went to hook up the boat to the bro's Bronco, noticed the trailer tongue wasn't aligned right with the ball. After finally getting the sleep out of my eyes, I realized the trailer tongue weld had cracked and the tongues was buckled and about 8-10 degrees off center. We looked closely saw the cracked weld and the buckle point on the other side. Bro had run from Rockport to Bird Island and back and not seen this. Needless to say we went in poured another cup of java and went over other things in life. That was a close call on them. Could of been a serious problem. So no real fishing for me last weekend. Folks check those trailers, man, $30K of boating could have gone into serious ouch if it had broke on the road. Oh well as Terry Stembridge used to say:" There will be another night"( in this case another day)

I was out there last weekend but the winds were way too strong to fish the jetties. We stayed in the bay, along the Lydia Ann channel and fished around the light house, didnt catch a whole lot though. Did catch a baby hammerhead which was fun.

I too Bass fish so the transition is hard on hook sets from Bass to Trout. I SET the hook on Bass now. You don't need a heavy rod when targeting trout. Reds different story! They have a paper thin mouth so a Medium to Medium/Light rod is good that way you don't jerk thier face off on a hard hook set. Also try to get the lightest rod and reel combo if wading, your arm will get tired after 2000 casts. Also us a 7' to 8' rod so you can wing those lures out there and get some good leverage on hook sets. -DELRUS-
