I recently bought a new deep cycle battery from walmart to use on my jon boat and now I am looking for a battery charger. I have had horrible luck with batteries and this old POS charger I have.
The battery would be used on my trolling motor for camping trips only pretty much, so it wont see that much use but I found that even after I thought I had a good charge on them last year I get out to the lake and the battery would be dead a lot quicker than it should have been.
I would like to be able to plug in and forget about the battery till next trip. Or a charger that tells me when to take it off. Anyone have an economical suggestion? I saw a few at walmart but know nothing about them so I didn't grab one.

Walmart and I'm sure other stores have reasonable charger(s). I bought one the brand is Schumacher. I use it to top off my starting battery since I only have a one bank charger in my boat. There are different models. Mine is a small 2amp one. I just plug it in and overnight it charges(tops off) the battery. You might want to get a larger one if you need to charge the battery faster.

I have used Schumacher for many years and they aren't bad, but I bought a Vector at Academy and like it a lot more. Went back a year later and they don't carry them any more. Found them online and got another at Amazon.com.

Leave them hooked up all the time and they are great! Digital readout of actual Battery voltage, alternator tester, battery reconditioner, etc. Alot more for the money than the Schumachers in my opinion.

I use this one: Trickle Charger @Amazon Since its not waterproof, I swapped out the battery connectors for clamps and its worked just fine for over a year now. The recharge is slow but I like that its capable of staying on the battery for long periods of time. Plus its really cheap.

Texas-Z, I have 3 of the blue marine chargers and they are great. Will shut down when done and go into float to keep them topped off.
