Am able to throw my old Betts 6ft cast net fairly well and I've repaired it for the last stinking time. The Leads are starting to crack. Here's where I need some advice/opinions? What's the best cast net out there for the money and should I go with a 10ft or 12ft net? (these are the sizes I'm looking at) I want a quality net and of course everyone says their nets are good quality but the price range differs considerably. I know some of you Hybrid/Striper guides on this website have tried or used many different kinds of cast nets which is why I'd appreciate your comments. Thanks...

7' radius (14'diameter) cast net is the largest that is legal in texas fyi. I would throw that size if you can learn to throw it good. Im just a weekend warrior so I never buy the top end nets and seem to get by fine. If I was a guide or used one more than once a week I most definately would go with the top end nets. They seem to stay soft and more pliable longer.

Black Lund a 7' net (14' open) is the maximum legal cast net in Texas waters. I throw a BaitBuster 7' X 1/2" mesh with 1 1/2 pounds of lead per foot. It throws great, sinks fast, catches 4" and larger shad and is cheep for a hand crafted 6 panel net. It's easy to repaire too. You can replace a brale line in five minutes. PM me and I can hook you up with a good deal on nets.

I use a Betts old salt 7' 1/2" mesh from www.catchnbait.com . If your net gets stiff soak it overnight in a bucket of water with fabric softener. You can pay big money for panel nets if you want but unless your catchnbait in deep water it's not necessary imo.

OOPS-Thanks alot guys. Appreciated your comments! You saved me a ticket. I didn't know there was a size limit. You can buy the big nets everywhere (cabelas, academy, online) so I'm surprised you can even get them here (TX) if they're illegal. Guess it's back to the six foot but I'm not going with a BETTS again.

I'm using a 7' Joy net and a 7' Ahi 600. The Joy is Lighter and bigger mesh for the summer bait. The Ahi is a 1/4" with 1.5 pounds of lead per foot. 7' nets are the only way to go. Can't wait for somebody to wise up and allow us to start using the bigger nets like they can in Florida. I'd rather throw a bigger net once than a smaller once 3 times.
