I am thinking about taking some trips to Lake Calcasieu in Louisiana and taking a couple of people down on the trip...Here's what's included: nights lodging in private cabin night before the trip, guided trip (full day-daybreak until 2:00 or so), tip, bait, transportation from either Austin or Houston(we'll arrange a meeting place), dinner the night before the trip, breakfast, sodas and sandwiches on the boat, and offshore fishing if necessary. Not included is alcohol or any extra munchies or snacks you want along the way. Bring your own tackle and lures if you want. Extra cost for rod & reel:$10. Cost: $325/per person. You can't beat this deal! Hackberry Gun and Rod charges $295, not including bait, tip, fish cleaning or transportation.
Plus, if you are interested, what I usually do is gamble at Lake Charles for about 2 hours the night before. Any winnings go into the pot to defray from the trip costs! The last trip wound up costing us about $150 each!

I am not a guide-I just like Calcasieu and can't afford to go as much as I would like on my own...I will do the cooking (I usually get good reviews), the driving and arranging. We will have a tried and true guide. I would like to plan a trip in August, leaving Saturday around noon and arriving in Austin on Sunday night around 7:00. Anyone interested? Let me know if you are and what dates are good for you and I'll see if we can make something work. The only thing I ask: no alcohol on the boat-too many bad experiences with that.

I would be interested in this trip. I live in North Texas, so would have to meet you there in Lake Charles or wherever. Let me know more about the details and dates. Sounds like a good trip and I have wanted to fish that area for some time.

How many folks would you take and what fishes do you normally get? I am going to fish Barateria Waterway and/or Venice in July, but another trip to LA probably wouldn't kill me. I'm in Austin. Do you fish the mouth area down by the Gulf, or where?

I can take 2 people up to 5 people...I prefer just two, though-less headaches..We go after speckled trout mainly and reds, of course in Lake Calcasieu...exact location varies, of course depending on fish location-the guides are there 7 days a week, so they know best. Occasionally, we do go offshore about 5 miles-usually if we start getting pounded by the lady fish. We catch trout as well as larger species out there.

I'm in Bastrop (obviously) and I work in Austin, so we're neaighbors.

When we go is dependent upon whether or not I get a couple of seriously interested people, and what works good for them. The more notice we can give the better so that I can get the house and the guides that I want.

Let me know what you think. We can always meet up somewhere for coffee (or fish) to get to know each other a bit before you have to make a committment, if you want.

I definitely want to go prior to Labor Day too...early to mid August, maybe...I just mailed the deposits to our guide for a Sept 6 & 7 trip I have planned and he will call or email me next week about the best dates for July/August. Email me if you'ld like and I'll give you more detailed info.

I finally was able to clear the first two weeks of August and would like to join you on this trip. I have looked at the Calcasieu Fishing Charters web site and this looks like the place you might be using. Nothing better than a little casino action and fishing on the same trip. So, if you would not mind a little older(65) baldheaded guy that needs to have a cigarette now and then, let me know. Promise I don't smoke in the cabin, car, or when it might bother someone.

Sounds good! Looks like we have a couple of guys that want in...I'm in my 50's; so age isn't a issue. I smoke with the same degree as coutesy as you do, so, it's looking good!

I'm leaving town in a few minutes to fish Lake Livingston, but I'll be back Sunday night. I'll call Tim and see what's available the first two weeks in August and then see when we can match up dates for the cabin. The guides are one entity and the cabin owners/operaters are another. If I try to do it through a fish club or lodge, the total trip is about $100 more each for the same trip.

Will have firm dates set early next week!

Cool! I'm glad this idea is panning,out-I love fishing Calcasieu!

I will be away from my computer until next Thursday, so if you leave a message, I will get back with you then. I am going down to Boliver on the coast with my wife and grandaughter for a few days to fish rollover pass and the surf. I will e-mail you my cell number. Looking forward to this.

Hey guys I am going to Calcasieu next week the 14th. I will be going with the Hackberry guys. Is there anything that ya'll might recommend I do while I am in the area? We are going down Fri. night Fishing Saturday and coming back Sunday. I will have some extra time so maybe a place to fish off the dock or something neat to go see and maybe the good places around to eat. I appreciate the help.

Okay, guys- I think we are set for leaving Austin area about noon, Sat August 2nd, fishing Sunday the 3rd! I'll send ya'll individual emails. I imagine we'll have lady fish to contend with this early in August, so let's keep our fingers crossed for calm winds to go off shore!

If anyone else is interested in a trip, let me know-I could be talked into planning another one...In case ya'll can't tell, I love to fish Calcasieu-I just can't afford to foot the bill, so I need to split it up with someone.
