The Galveston Pier, which is somewhere around 81st street, is a pretty steady producer... I saw a mess of respectable blacktips and sand sharks as well as some 30lb + bull reds taken there last night off the T-head. There has been some good whiting action closer to the shore as well. Admission is 8 bucks...

cheers,
Synnove

Eight Bucks!!!! Makes Caldwell and Bob Hall pier a deal. Never would of guessed a pier would charge that much. Do they offer a yearly pass?

I might try there Thursday night. What kind of bait will they have available at the pier. Can the whiting be caught on their bait? What are the sharks and reds being caught on. I'll post my results if I end up going.

Novie132, Thanks I fished there a couple of years ago and did pretty well I caught a lot of ??? they looked like Trout and Walleye mixed no bigger than 2 lbs each.

Money, thanks,

when I get to seawall and looking at the gulf which way do I turn to get to San Louie?

I have 20lbs test line, what types of bait and what methods of rigging (floats or no floats? triple hook, etc...) do you recommend? I'll mostlikely be ther Friday afternoon. Do they alow dogs on there?

Remember the fee for crossing the San L bridge is 2bucks each way and also try to fish on the west side of the past.

The ??? fish were probably sand trout - there are a bunch of them out there. They sell squid and shrimp on the pier, but you get better quality bait and cheaper too if you buy it elsewhere. The whiting go for squid and shrimp, the sharks and reds for large cunks of cut bait. Bottom fishing is the way to go for all... If you live line shrimp under the pier near the posts, some nice sheepshead can be had as well. Hope this helps.

cheers,
Synnove

Thanks, is 20lb test line good enough? and how do I get to san louie bridge??? I know where that T shape Pier is but I need directions to St Louie Bridge or what ever spot it is I need to go to, I also have a Black Lab with me, will they allow that?

I really want to catch something on this trip as well, I kill'em in fresh water but I know nothing about ocean fishing and methods,,,

My last post was about the Galveston pier...sorry to be so vague. I've not been to San Luis, but they have a web site (i don't remember the url, but it's easy to find on yahoo). The Galveston pier doesn't allow pets... 20 lb line will be fine so long as you have a pier net or are near someone who does...

tight lines,
Synnove

To get to San Louis Pass, Turn right when you hit the seawall. If you decide to wade fish in this area, be extremely careful. The currents are very strong and a few folks lose their lives there every year. I would recommend not fishing the pass if you don't know the area or have someone with you that does.
