I have been doing a lot of bay fishing in the last year or so, and just bought my first boat. I now have the capability to head offshore if I want to. The question I have is what kind of knot is most effective for tying 30# mono.
Thanks
James

LimpRod, It depends on what you want to tie it to. If you are tying it on to a lure just use the improved clinch knot. If you are double lining it and the tying it to a leader use the albright special it is a lot easier than the Bimini Twist. Hope This Helps, Exude If you need more info let me know

I have kept this bookmarked for just an occasion: http://www.netknots.com/html/fishing_knots.html Excellent how-to reference guide for the knot-challenged like myself

With 30# you can still use most any knot you would for smaller lines. I use a palomar or improve uni-knot(eyecrosser). The surgeons loop is the easiest way for me to make a double line. I am planning more saltwater fishing this year on my own and needed to learn some knots for 100 and 200 lb leader material. Or I just may buy a good crimping tool. MO PS A stren field rep convinced me years ago that it is almost impossible to tie an improved clinch knot consistantly correct. If it does not pull down exactly right, it is only about 50% in strength.

Thanks for the info guys. Just didn't want to make a mistake tying knots on all my new lines. Would be a bit embarassing loosing those big fish.

Just to update this a little. I have been making some leaders and playing with knots. I have come to the conclusion that for my purposes, 30lb and under will get a palomar or eyecrosser, Over 30 lb up to 80 lb will get a uni not with 4 wraps. Here it is important to lubricate, pull down till snug, then really pull the tag end hard with pliers. Then pull down again. I bought a crimping tool and will crimp my wire leaders and any mono 100 lb and over. MO
