1999 Evinrude Model# E175FPLEEC Ser.# G046130B1. It started as soon as I turned the key on. I backed off the trailer and drove to dock to wait for friend about 100 yards with no problems. lifter the idle arm for some rpm to warm it up revved up fine with no problems. Friend got in dropped idle lever put in gear alarm came on with check engine light and motor shut down. Have power to starter, motor turns over but won't fire. I pulled a plug from both sides neither had a spark. I have no idea what i should check or what it might be any info would be great. Thanks

Emergency kill switch went bad. Key switch went bad, (I listed the cheep items 1st) Ignition box died. Stator got hot and died. Highly unlikely the trigger went out. Would not be shift interrupter switch, as it only kills three cylinders at a time. Rare, extremely rare, the diode in the internal wiring harness went out. That''s my list,,,,and I'm sticking to it.

Faulty emergency kill switch, neutral safety switch or a blown fuse located some where is what comes to mind first. Check the emergency kill switch wiring, once you are satisfied that the switch is Ok. I'm not a pro tech, and I'm sure one of those guys can narrow it down much more quickly. In the meantime, check those items.

find the internal fuse under the cowling and check it first, then go with mikes list if it is good.
had the same problem with an 82 175 johnson and it turned out to be the fuse just above where the fuel comes in under the cowl. little 20 amp in mine.

By the way, Welcome to TFF.

If Mike tells you something about your engine, you can pretty much take it to the bank 99.9% of the time. He's rarely wrong. Me...I'm always wrong...but I try. smile

Sir,

I found this thread via google search.

We have a 94 Evinrude E175GLERA that we stored in operating condition and are now ready to put back on the water.

We fitted a new battery, and filled with fresh gas.

Alas, no spark. After reading your suggestions above I looked hard at the lanyard kill switch isolating it before moving on to the neutral gear position kill switch that is supposed to kill just one bank of cylinders.

Still no spark. I then disconnected the rubber plug on the top of the engine. One of two with the yellow and black wire.

I now have spark on the drivers side bank of cylinders.

However, I do not really know why?

Any suggestions as to what I should do next would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
